A little bit of whimsy just flew into the store in the form of the Luck Duck Hat by Dagworthy Knitwear.
Perusing Instagram, I came across a profile of a woman knitting these little duck hats for her baby. I couldn't get over how adorable these hats were. Then I saw a post that a pattern was being released! I knew I had to knit this duck hat.
Last week we received a big shipment of Knitting for Olive yarn. The EXACT yarn used to knit the ducks. Perfect timing! Dagworthy Knitwear released the pattern on Instagram Monday, June 1. I had prepared for this release and made sure I took home the colors I would need to knit the mallard version.
10 a.m. Monday arrived and I had the pattern in my hand. I chose to do the tubular hem. That meant I needed to track down my TRIPLE ZERO knitting needles. I followed the pattern exactly and quickly realized that I was getting gauge in those teeny tiny needles. So I continued the rest of the hat in the smaller needles.
Even though I used the smaller needles for the whole hat, I was able to finish in about 12 knitting hours.
I knit the toddler size as it was the biggest size that is currently offered. Those yarn shop babies aren't babies anymore... sigh... so my model is a little too big but the hat came out so cute!

You can get multiple hats out of one skein of each color that are used in the mallard version. I'm already planning a second hat in the cream color.
Since you only need a small amount in the contrasting colors, we have put together kits for the mallard version. You can find them here.

The pattern will officially release on Ravelry tomorrow June 5.
We can't wait to see the flock of ducks!
Happy Knitting,
Emilie
