Gnomes! Sara Schira's knitted gnome patterns are delightful and irresistible. In this workshop you will make one of the gnomes from her Never Not Gnoming pattern from start to finish.

The pattern is written for sock/fingering weight yarn, but you can use any weight yarn. The thicker the yarn, the larger the gnome!

You will learn how to make and attach a knitted beard, nose, and arms. We will also cover how to customize your gnome with a needle-felted beard and nose made of wool roving or locks.

The pattern, yarn, and stuffing are included. We will also have needle felting supplies available for you to use during the workshop.

Required Materials:

  • Knitting needles for either sock or worsted weight yarn in the round (DPNs, Flexiflips, two circulars, or magic loop): For sock yarn, the pattern recommends US #2.5 and #2 needles. For worsted weight yarn I use #6 and #5.
  • Darning needle

Level: Intermediate Beginner. Students must be able to knit small pieces in the round using DPNs, two circular needles, or magic loop.

    Minimum # Students: 2
    Maximum # Students: 6

    Cost: $35

There is a 10% discount on purchases made the day of the class.

    Instructor: Carla Billingsley

Carla Billingsley rediscovered knitting shortly after her 40th birthday when she fell in love with handpainted and novelty yarns. At first she only made rectangles and triangles: scarves, throws, and shawls. Eventually she worked up the courage to try lace and socks. After learning to turn her first heel she realized that you can learn anything if you set your mind to it, and that learning is really easy if you can take a class with a good teacher. In 2014 she and her husband Curtis moved to Texas and in June 2015 they opened Quixotic Fibers. From the beginning, her vision for the shop was that it is not just a place to buy yarn and fiber, but that it should become a community resource dedicated to the preservation and development of the fiber arts, a place where knitters, crocheters, weavers, and spinners can gather to learn from and to inspire each other.  Over the past 8 years she has developed her crochet skills and developed a love for that craft as well.   In 2024 Carla and Curtis returned to Florida, leaving the Texas store in Emilie's capable hands, and opened a little sister shop to the Texas store in Zephyrhills, Florida.
