Learn the basics of knitting! In this 2 1/2 hour class, you will learn to cast on, knit, purl, and bind off while making a small square with a knit and purl pattern that can be used as a coaster or "mug rug" when you are finished. We'll also discuss how to read a simple knitting pattern and practice identifying and fixing your mistakes as you go. This is a great class for those who have never knit before or who need a refresher.

Skill Level: Beginner

Materials needed: 1 skein worsted weight yarn with some wool content, US size 7 needles either straight or circular (any length); kits available for purchase starting at $11.75

Minimum # students: 1

Instructor: Sarah Walworth

Sarah first learned to knit as a child from her mom, but re-learned as an adult when she needed a way to keep her hands busy. It quickly cascaded into re-writing patterns to fit her, learning innovative techniques, and trying all different ways to tension the yarn. She now makes her living as a knitting technical editor and loves to pass on the craft to whomever she can get to hold needles and yarn for a few minutes.
